Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bengals are scheduled to host free agent S Eric Reid for a visit at some point in the near future.
According to Rapoport, Reid has been “methodical” about his free agency plans this offseason and he believes there’s a “real chance” he signs with the Bengals during this visit.
This is the first reported interest in Reid since the free agent market officially opened last month.
He may have a very good reason for not being there Monday, but it’s certainly a missed opportunity at changing the negative narrative that has shaped his first three seasons as a Giant.
Here are four other takeaways from a busy day at 1925 Giants Drive:
Beckham’s decision to fly across the country from Los Angeles where he is training to be with teammates and the new coaching staff will be dissected for days and weeks to come.
It’s clearly a sign of his commitment to the Giants – well, not showing up would have been perceived as the contrary – and while Shurmur viewed Beckham’s arrival as a positive, he preferred not to make the situation in speculation more than what it was in reality.
“I’m not overthinking this,” Shurmur said. “This is the first day of work, this is the first opportunity for all of us to be here together and I think it’s important that Odell is here and I’m looking forward to him getting one day better by being here and I’m looking forward to him inspiring some of his teammates to get better because he’s here and he’s a terrific player and I think we can all learn from one another. Quite frankly, I’m looking forward to the players challenging me to grow, so that we can grow towards some of the things that we were talking about earlier.
